CD Baby members are invited to Bottom of the Hill in downtown San Francisco this SATURDAY April 28th, 2007 at 1pm (done by 3pm) - for an informal meet-and-greet, hosted by CD Baby founder/president Derek Sivers.

In a room full of musicians and various music-biz types, it's best to bring some business cards and CDs, and be prepared to tell the room what you're looking for, and what you have to offer.

For example: in past get-togethers like this, someone will stand up and say, "My name is Michelle - I'm a flamenco guitarist, available for hire if you need, and my band is looking for a photographer." Then someone else will stand up and say, "I'm here visiting from LA, but if anyone wants to gig-swap to help my duo book more gigs in the Bay Area, I can help you book more gigs in LA."

Also, there will be a 30-minute talk on "How to Call Attention to Your Music" by Derek Sivers.

COME HUNGRY, and order lunch when you arrive. Bottom of the Hill is kindly hosting this for no special charge on the understanding that most of us will be ordering food and drink.

Who attended?

  • 102 attendees
    •  Was good to network and hear Derek's speech.
    •  Not well organized. Little direction, slow to develop.
    • Jake (+2 guests)
Good idea! As an independent musician, I didn't think networking events were in my future, but now that I've attended one, it seems that there is no reason that musicians shouldn't meet up and network just like businessmen and other professionals do.
    •  Event was great except for the fact that there was no microphone and it was a little hard to hear in the back.
    •  great opportunity to meet other SF musicians, share needs and wants, and learn more cool promotion tips from Derek! thx and come again! lis (Aoede)
    •  I thought it was great. My thanks to Derek. I have a new appreciation for what CD Baby does.
    •  1st, it's great to meet Derek. Thanks for putting this event together. A lot of great advice especially for a rookie like me in this industry. Meeting all these great artist was great. Hope to you all again sometime. TC
    •  I am not actually sure if the contacts will be frutiful, but Dereks talk with the group was well worth the time and trip.
    •  Just ned to have a mic on Derek when he talks and pump it through a PA so all can hear.
    •  I met quite a few folks and really appreciated Derek's talk on PR. Very helpful and also great to get a face to the name behind CD baby. Great sense of community! Would be kind of cool if meetups like this could continue. I know Derek can't be in every town for them, but perhaps with a local featured person to speak for 20 minutes and answer some questions, it would be possible. We in SF have lots of proximity to digital distribution folks etc and maybe others from other areas of promo. I sure would like to meet booking agents, for example.
    •  Just want to say thanks so much for putting it together. Derek's talk was very helpful and his energy was very warm.
    •  should have only 1 event in the Bay Area. Berkeley and SF are not that far apart. It would have been better to have 1 well organized event than two. Not enough time to network. Should have areas for meetups at the venue like: genre, looking for bandmates, looking for services, etc. Speaker talked far too long when he could have just given a few highlights. Speaker should have had a microphone! Could not hear most of what he said unless you were right in front.
    •  It was great to meet Derek and other local music types. I feel less alone and anonymous. It was fun.
    •  It was refreshing to meet somany like minded people! Derek was very gracious and informative, I left there feeling that I still had a chance in this biz! Thank Cdbaby for this wonderful event! I would look forward to upcoming simular event! Naldo Keith, Ethnic Dive Music Family
