CD Baby members are invited to Paddy O's in downtown Boston on WEDNESDAY May 9th at 7pm (done by 9pm) - for an informal dinner-and-drinks meet-and-greet, hosted by CD Baby founder/president Derek Sivers.

In a room full of musicians and various music-biz types, it's best to bring some business cards and CDs, and be prepared to tell the room what you're looking for, and what you have to offer.

For example: in past get-togethers like this, someone will stand up and say, "My name is Michelle - I'm a flamenco guitarist, available for hire if you need, and my band is looking for a photographer." Then someone else will stand up and say, "I'm here visiting from New York, but if anyone wants to gig-swap to help my duo book more gigs in the Boston area, I can help you book more gigs in New York."

Also, there will be a 30-minute talk on "How to Call Attention to Your Music" by Derek Sivers.

COME HUNGRY, and order dinner when you arrive. Paddy O's is kindly hosting this for no special charge on the understanding that most of us will be ordering food and drink.

Great fun with a great host. It's always great to be in a room with a group of artists because they light it up. I wish I could help all of them. I think I might have been able to impart some real wisdom if it wasn't so hot in there.... and if there were more one on one time with each.
    •  Great experience! Lots of helpful information from Derek, and got to meet lots of great musicians.
    •  I enjoyed meeting people and I also enjoyed Derek Siver's talk.
    •  Derek...Thanks for a great night of opportunity, information, connections, motivation, inspiration and more. You are a treasure! You provided incredibly useful and enlightening advice in your delightful, warm manner . your genuine devotion to every musician is remarkable and heartwarming. Thanks for setting this all up for us and for all that you do for us so brilliantly. ~ Zola
    •  The place should have had a mike set up for Derek so he didn't have to yell. But he was excellent as he always is. I've been going to music conventions and workshops for years and he is by far the best speaker. Friendly, smart, easy to understand and full or practical, unique ways to actually help artists.

poorly organized. we were given the impression everyone would introduce themselves but that was not so. could barely hear the speakers except for derek. (who's great)
    •  Very cool good words from Derrick
    •  I feel that Derek truly let the musicians know that his main concern is their success. I picked up many new ideas I will certainly utilize on future albums to bring in more sales. Thanks again Derek. Hope to see you again. Darryl
    •  Nice feeling to the get-together. Interesting to meet so many other musicians who have signed on to CD Baby for distribution.
    •  Would liked to hear about your new plans for the future. Also if you would have a master link to our Cds for downloading. You mentioned the importance about forming a link where to by the CD but other than itunes it is near impossible to find our music on download companies.
    •  The event was well organized and the speech by Derek was full of useful ideas on how to promote your music and be persistent about it. Derek is a good speaker who knows his audience.
    •  It was good.. I think more people would have broken the ice and spoke with eachother if they had name tags that were given to them at the door. That said who they were. That way we also woulnt need to do this survey to see who went!!!!
    •  We loved it because we were sitting up close and personal. For the folks who were in the back you couldn't hear a thing and it was hot, hot, hot in the place so as soon as it was over we bolted just to get some air, not your fault. We did envision hanging out and meeting up with others but noisy and too hot. We did love Derek's advice, the chick who spoke and Adam. It was helpful to get their feedback and some really good advice. Looking forward to selling our 1st 1000 cds on CDBABY. I would suggest also to have more than one meetup in Boston for those who couldn't make it and to give those of us who did to go again knowing what it's like and be more prepared with cd's to share. Kudos for you to do it to begin with. Thank you from the Martin's "The River Turns The Wheel" and "Next to Nothin'"
    •  I had a very good time. It was informative, educational and a joy to have attended. I spoke with several people after the speakers were through and I'm very glad I was there.
    •  There is nothing musically happening in Boston.
    •  The online community of CDBaby musicians and cdbaby staff and associates really came to life in person.
